World Migration coming soon …

Today i want to introduce a really big topic which was discussed a lot in the past and finally we can tell you something what this all about.

So what is this all about?
With the world migration you will be able to move your favorite character to another World in your market for example if i am playing with my main character on world 1 in germany i can move it to another world in germany.

Can i transfer to every world? Can i also transfer from a non premium to a premium world or opposite?
Not as default. Every Community-Manager of any market will be able to create “migration-routes” this means he can decide from which to which world you will be able to transfer. There will also be in game announces if you are able to migrate from your world.

If a route exists do i have to transfer/migrate my character and what is happened if i have already a character on the new world?
First of course you don’t have to migrate any character it is your decision, but keep in mind the idea of migration is to get much as possible players to the same worlds and remove old, empty worlds. If you have already a character on the world you want to migrate to, you will need to delete that character first. We don’t want to do this by script because of the support cost if character was wrong migrated or deleted. So if you want to migrate one character to another world you have to secure that there is no character on this world.

What will be migrated?
Your character with all of his stats, inventory, skills, profession, recipes, quests, achievements, avatar, premium settings.

What will not be migrated?
Your messages, forts, town. This means you will leave your town / alliance and you will be townless on the world.

How to migrate a character?
The migration will be located in the settings page if there is an available route from your world to another you can migrate your character. If you choose to migrate you have to secure that you have no auctions, tasks or other stuff left equals to deletion requirements. Another thing i talked already about, you have to secure that there is no character on the world you migrate to. Problem in this case could be that you will have to wait 5 days until the character will be deleted. If everything is fine your character moves to a migration state this means you will not be able to log in into both worlds until the migration is finished which normally should be executed at night.

I hope i could give you a small overview over this feature which will be released soon. If you have any questions please ask i will comment them or add them to this post.

Version 1.36 is largely finished already and will be deployed soon, i will write down the change log in the next days.

Ok I have a problem with this . I technically play all worlds but my main worlds are

world 1, world 6, world 7 world 9, arizona, briscoe and colorado

the following is already established as migration destinations

world 1: my main character cannot move here. among top players in world
    world 11: can move here
    world 12: can move here
arizona:existing player top player in skills
    briscoe:existing player
colorado: existing player:top town and pure construction here

So as you can see there is only 2 destinations for me world 11 and 12. I have indicated the CM that I want to merge all my characters into briscoe. This is more of a manual migration.

    Any comments….

    Hallo 🙂

it’s really interesting idea, but… What will happen to the worlds in which will play below 500 players (or less)? That world can anyone have fun and his operation will probably unprofitable.

If you have that much active characters on active worlds there is no problem 🙂 This feature is for player who plays on old worlds with just one active character to transfer to a newer more active world

    @Martina

Until a world gets really unprofitable it takes some time we will define some guidelines for every single market when this point is reached and announce it then.

    @Fragohol1C
If your Coma create a route for the new world it could be possible but i think it is not the way they will do it 🙂

    @GJaschaG
Your Quests will completely migrated so you will be on the progress on the new world

How many times can you migrate your character into other worlds if there are routes?

    @butcher pete
Thats a problem for those who plays multiple accounts active they have to decide then which character they want to play.

    @Fragohol1C
There will be some kind of cooldown so you can just migrate every three months or something with one character those numbers are not final we have to find a good value.

so am i correct in saying,
-your moving active players to active worlds(there own choice from a select few)
    -deleting old inactive worlds
    – players with multiple accounts will have to delete accounts they ve built up over months if not years, in some cases spend 100’s of $ on said accounts to facilitate this??

This may be an old question, since this is the first time I’ve really read about this migration bit. I only play on one world, but I have been pretty consistent for years. When I first learned of the migration I wasn’t too happy specially since I’ve built a town from ground up the first two years I played. Also, wasn’t sure what would happen to my player since I’ve invested so much and my inventory’s pretty extensive.

I’m happy to see that most of these things transfer over, the town’s not as important to me now, but my question is, what worlds will go away, and when will this take place so our alliance can prepare accordingly.

I think this is the worst idea ever. Dedicate Your time and effort to balancing the duel system before coming up with ideas like this.
And why should someone be allowed to skip the hardships of low levels on any world??
Everyone already there has spent time and, quite possibly money, to be where they are now. It seems really unfair that someone can have their high level character transferred

W10 has died off quick in 2012 (due to? killing off dueling?…some suggest even that its due to Zet leaving us. mo?*) so this migration is defo the way forwards. at least for the sake of buying time.

So which world do I chose to go to?
I play one world (w10) and dont want to be left behind, and certainly don’t want to go to a noob world like w11 or 12 or briscoe(complete premium(complete waste of time))
so its colorado or a new world!
What’s the chance that a new world will only be joined by a few thousand immigrants and no one else?
I am hoping W10 peeps stay together.
I am hoping Vic and other big names will be up for a new faction? a new challenge perhaps?

As much as the migration prospect is exciting, a lot is still up in the air. What is important here is to look after the tight knit communities we have and to do so we need sufficient time to prepare to all move to the same world imho.

Ps: Hopefully duelling will be brought back up to standards?
I can go play crafting in Minecraft which is by far a better crafting/construction game with a much bigger community. So the USPs on the west are definitely duels and FFs.

*imo bullying mainstream active and dedicated players is the big killer. Although Im sure Mods here know the ins and outs of good/bad customer service and their consequences…

I see it as one big nonsense, it will bring chaos, some players will be an advantage (if they sell their inventory, and then save money and valuables in someone else’s). A better solution would be to run the new worlds in which they could log-on with some of the old character. Without cities, without forts.

But before should certainly deal with other things, there are enough, which spoil the game.

If I have a character with alot of exp that i have worked together for the last 3 years , at the “2 hours” worlds, and a guy from a new world with 1 hour that have the same amount of exp in just 1 year, comes to my world , is that fair that he will be in the number 1 spot of the experiencechart ?

Okay… It is good to see something finally being done with the old worlds. 🙂

However… Those who are in ALL worlds are going to be forced to decide on which characters to keep… or be forced to stay on very dead worlds until the plug is pulled. Right?

In most of the dead worlds, I see the same people… ( no they’re not dead 😛 ) so I think there are a lot of those who are on most if not all worlds. Some are in different worlds under different names too. (Not me… I couldn’t be bothered with trying to remember the right logon to which world and if I logged onto the wrong world and created an unintentional multi… thereby being banned for no good reason – yes it happened to someone I know.) So these few hundred or so high-level-multiple-world peeps are going to be left wandering around a bunch of empty worlds.

Well… Then what? Will those worlds just be tossed in the recycle bin and purged?

A lot of those peeps are above level 90… the majority are level 120 and holding. So, all the time, energy, money, etc that they had used while playing those worlds and building up their characters… I really don’t know what to suggest if they are forced to just delete it. But I think you’ll need to be really careful. Otherwise you may wind up having them throw in the towel and leave The West completely. They are some great peeps that really helped shape the game… taking in all the noobs and showing them the ropes. It really would be a shame to lose any of them.

I too think this is the only solution to the continuous trend of players dropping from worlds. I’ve played in world 9 and world 9 only almost since it started and it has gone down from 10,000 players at one point to just over 1300 now (and losing around 5 players everyday for some unknown to me reason).

There is not enough to do in a dead world like that, hardly any fort battles (averaging one in 3 days), not enough trading in the markets, not enough duel targets, not enough active towns (there are many towns with just 1 member). Migrating to a more active world would bring back the excitement of the West for me and many others no doubt.

I think you will see far more super players this way. Premium players with characters with unique items on separate worlds will be able to consolidate these unique items into one character and sell the rest. Then they could concievably wonder from world to world upsetting the balance of the game.
It will be the beginning of the end …

it’s a pretty good idea, but i think there should be some penalty for migrating, ie some levels down. That way the equilibrium on the destination world won’t be upset. Besides, the migrated players will fell some extra motivation to stay active, especially for high level players

It is best to gather up as many “locals” or regulars”, into as few servers as possible.
This would increase player enjoyment, server numbers, fort battle attendance and duels.

The issue is that many of the servers have their own system set up, even social behavioural characteristics. (not every server acts the same, regardless if they have less players then the others)
Some only seem more active due to the fact that you are “drawn” into that server more.
This could be due to people, its actions, the team, or even the outcome (we are winning and have all the forts)

Gathering up all the players into fewer servers would benefit the “non” active players and be better for its over all, longer lasting (like chewing gum:)
And more likelihood to draw new players.
Better for all its players, not just its active players…but all.

Some one mentioned statistics (two years ago I remember screaming something called product life cycle)
Some one mentioned compensation, I would say” bulldoze them all into one server and be glad that they warned you”.

    …………………………….
4 people stranded out in the middle of the ocean on a rubber boat.
Your options are, you can eat one of the members and the other 3 will survive.
Or you can be nice and polite, do nothing, and they ALL die.

Should I get the bulldozer keys?

I see the need for this migration of worlds to fix the mistakes Inno made, by creating so many worlds in the 1st place… but now they are going to make another mistake, not giving enough thought to the consequences.. as many are mentioned above.

My biggest concern is these 2 things:
    1. People that used nuggets to support Inno (and themselves) and some might lose on one world and (big) maybe gain on another.

    2. Then you have these credit card munchers.. who have bought nuggets like crazy.. and bought immense amount of Skill Points… and when they move to a world that did not have it… like world 1… they are going to have a big & unfair advantage over these previously classic worlds

    3. Okay.. maybe a 3rd problem. Buying nuggets. In America… buying 1000 nuggets will cost you half a plate of food (so I heard) so one can sit with 3500 nuggets easily… BUT… here in a country like South Africa (maybe others too)… 1000 nuggets will cost you your daily wages !!!

Seriously.. how will we be able to compete… and if Da Twista reads this.. he’ll know I’m telling the truth… coming from the same city.. the Mother City 🙂
How do Inno rationalize how much each country pays… cause they certainly don’t use the exchange rate ?

But because of these few mentioned points… the west game for me will lay in a bad spot.. stay or leave ? Guess we’ll see.

I play on only 1 world and that world is 1. I like world 1 because you dont have all the BS of the FULL PREMIUM SYSTEM where people can buy everything. I DO NOT want people that HAVE BOUGHT SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTE POINTS coming into world 1!! It would give an unfair advantage to those who have bought skills!! and then transfer to world 1 where the players that are already there have not bought stats and skills. Very bad idea that MUST BE ADDRESSED if you allow players to move into WORLD 1 (CLASSIC PREMIUM)

While I applaud the direction The West is heading I have to say that I hate the idea of losing my town.

While we are being told we will retain all we have (money, achievements, quests, etc.) we will be moving to a place with no town and the possibility of no open towns. Add to that if there is an open town you will have to spend time to take it over and it may not have the levels already achieved. The building levels of a town represent an investment of time and money, founding a town, the same. We have worked hard on our town for quite some time.

This isn’t a 1 person town, currently there are 6 of us and we actively recruit. I don’t mind making some sacrifices but this is asking (telling?) quite a bit. We will be moving into a world where we have little to no chance of having a town and if we get one it likely will need an investment.

I know I would be much happier and willing to move from the only world I play on (world 4) if I knew 2 things. First, that I would be able to have a town when I arrived in my new world, even if I had to activate it I would know it is mine. Second, that the work I and others have invested into our town (time, money, treasury) would not be wasted. Otherwise I have no reason to leave my current world.

We have worked as hard on our town in World 4 as any other town on any other world. Moving to a new world with no town and losing all that work is a bit of a slap in the face. I know this is something of a necessity for the game to advance but this needs to be addressed.

    At least that’s my opinion.

Why not just create one BIG world and then migrate everybody to it whether they want to go or not. They just wake up one day and they are on that world, no questions asked.

Doing it that way solves a lot of problems one of which are all of these questions. It will also solve the problem of nothing to do due to lack of membership on the older servers because then there will be thousands of people. Maybe allow those that have many accounts to pick the one they want to keep and the others get deleted. Or let them keep them all on the new world but with rules that will prevent sharing resources between characters.

I’m on World 1 and have never been on any others so I don’t know which one to pick, I’ll probably just quit. I’m assuming that server 1 will be gone because frankly there is not much to do there so I have been just doing jobs in order to try to get to level 120 which appears to be the cut off point… Plus server one was the first one.

You need to think this out better then you seem to be doing. You can’t keep everybody happy so make a decision and stick by it.

Why make things so complicated. make a decision and stick to it. There are adjustments that can be made, (like maybe having 3 total servers. A newbie server when they go to a certain level and then advance to the high level server. And maybe separate premium accounts with non paying accounts. Thats another option to cut all these servers down. Cheers.

I see the merge as an overall good move, on a couple of the worlds I play there is barely enough active players to fill a small fort battle. It will be good to hopefully get to a world with more players. The only problem for me is I have players on w11-w15 already. So at some point does this mean I will have to delete some of my characters? or will there be an option for players from the old worlds 2-10 to move to a different old world?

  47. Victor kruger
    Victor kruger April 16, 2012

You can’t please all the people all of the time.

This is badly needed and will allow many players the chance to engage in more active worlds.

If you play on many old worlds youll be able to choose to move or not. You dont have to move anywhere.

The older worlds are mostly dead anyway so if you like questing etc it wont matter in the slightest. If you like it quiet then you’ll not be bothered for now.

If you prefer activity and like forts or dueling then moving to a more populated world will only enhance your gaming pleasure.

If you like having no challenge or half empty battles and being top ranked because there’s not much competition stay where you are because the competition is gonna get even smaller.

Sure old worlds will get even quieter and maybe even old communities will die out but you cant have it all. Either something is done now or its going to be too late.

As long as its thought out and Expanded Premium System players arn’t forced to join
Complete Premium System worlds its something being done, old worlds were always doomed anyway. You wern’t expecting to keep all your toons forever were you ?
