Crafting screendesign

First of all i have to say we will release crafting on public beta tomorrow. Today i will give you some preview of our screendesign.

Further upcoming changes/ideas we want to implement a kind of backpack limit i know most of you will hate it, but we want and need some more limitation. This has technical reasons because of the amount of items per player to store them in database and this has game design reasons we want more interaction between all players. I have to say that we are in an early state of ideas about that, but we know that many peoples are collectors. We plan to introduce some kind of collections so if you found any item it will be saved as found and you can sell this item. If you found every item of a kind for example all woolly hats you will receive an achievement for it and maybe some kind of bonus. I personally hope that this is a good solution for everyone but i need your feedback so we can discuss on this ๐Ÿ™‚

In addition we plan to give every player something like a warehouse / store room additional to your normal inventory to store some more items maybe you will be able to extend this with money or premium but this are only ideas at moment so don’t blame me ๐Ÿ˜‰ Just give me some feedback. We know that many players will complain about that change but we have to find a good solution for everyone.

    I don’t agree to backpack limit and that’s it. I worked more then 2 years to have what I have now. The solution with warehouse/store room sounds good and hope it will be implemented in this way. Now I have over 4500 items and I want to have every item in the game and some of them are useful so this must be thought very well before something is implemented.     Yes i agree about LIMIT,but if you will make some kind of warehouse in TOWN which we must build and without limit,then each player can keep all item in it.If he need some other type of hat,pants,etc.. he must come back to town and swap.
    But in this idea only big minus for those who live without town.Maybe each player can build warehouse?Or any player can rent warehouse in any town?so no need to live if you want.

    P.S.could you translate crafting in english,so will be easier to test new framework ๐Ÿ˜‰

    @kernel: like always the texts are written in german first and a while after that translated into english, because the translation needs time to be completed.

    @backpack limit: i totally agree the idea of a backpack limit, not only because almost every good rpg has one, but it will really make you think what you will take with you. it also makes the interaction with other players more necessary if you can’t store and/or everything you need by your own

    Limitless backpack is one of the best things in this game as no other game has it. And it works perfectly since items database is fixed, you can get only one type of red rags for example. Which means you don’t have to make some huge space for a player’s profile on the server. But if you’ll add randomized bonuses to items, so we could get a few different red rags (not the pic, but skill bonuses) this is impossible to maintain and I understand the need to limit the backpack and I won’t complain in such case.

    Warehouse for each player or backpack premium will not solve the problem. Maybe a town’s warehouse? This could be nifty. I have many items in the backpack that are now useless to me and I don’t want to sell them for a few bucks. But those would be of great help to low level townmates. Maybe a town warehouse, where players could borrow items could work. Of course, if a player borrows an item from there, it can’t be sold by that player, only by it’s original owner or town manager. I’m pretty sure collectors would accept this as a solution as items are saved as found, stored now in the town warehouse and can be borrowed by the same player if needed. To prevent the abuse of leechers, just make an option that if a player leaves the town, items he borrowed are automatically returned into the warehouse.
    And finally if you add a town warehouse, it would make an idea of playing townless even less attractive and if I’m right, that’s what you’re trying to do with each update.

    Achievements without bonus are something that is made bad in this game. While some players are chasing medals, I tend to ignore them. Medals should give a player something, doesn’t need to be some huge thing, but something small. Not all medals should give bonuses ofc, for example mystery solution medal already gives GG.

    Finally just a small suggestion about crafting. Whatever you do, please, just please, do not make one crafting school overpowered so everyone wants to go on just that one like you did with classes. Thanks.

    kernel, yup. every time I sell an item I don’t need any more for it’s lowest price on the market to a townmember, I’m scared of being kicked by support. it didn’t happen yet, but could. ๐Ÿ™

    Its hard for me as for @darkyndy, 2 years guarding itens, but i should be “relieved” if i recieve achivments for the collections i have, but not showned on medal box.

    I’m 3 steps from having all Fancy Weapon (missing Boone, Jesse and Younger), and for me, sell fancy items are out of line… http://br.weststats.com/Inventory/9790b664d58cf499557f890669ca25f3/ i was really hard not to sell the inventory and harder to get money to buy Named Weapons for other players.

    Well, i do not disagree that some limit must be putted inventory, but dont know how to “solve” this.

    Maybe a different achiviment box ONLY for collections, at least people will se that AT LEAST i just got a LOT of items…

    And i agree with @JoxerTM medals/achivment without bonus is useless, put bonus on medals, and let then ONLY BE ACTIVE if they are on the 4 MEDAL BOX slots.

    Dear devs,
    PLease answer this question before you will make an update tommorow.
    If someone choose proffesion.Does it mean you cant change it anymore?Like a player class?
    Or all professions are about skill you have?

    @kernel, i support the idea that we could have ANY profession, changing then, with the penalty of reset the previous one. Just like WoW system. A “forget” system.

    But ONLY if we could do ONCE PER TIME, if we could do all types of profession depending on Skills and Recipies, them it doesnt matter.

    Name one…ONE…where the limit was implemented when the game was three years old when players had 4500 items.

    @Elmyr here you are right, all games that I played and I play that have backpack limit had it from the beginning and with premium you could upgrade number of items that you can have and during time when players reached higher levels the limit that can be bought with premium also increased. Also I posted on .net forum this topic: http://forum.the-west.net/showthread.php?t=45564 where my intention is to discuss this limitation (I hope that will not be implemented at all or it will be very well think of before implementing).

    Also regarding crafting today is “tomorrow” and I don’t see any announcement on beta forum or something in the beta world regarding crafting ๐Ÿ™‚

    @Elmyr, i agree with you.
    You, me, and darkyndy, are long date collectors and dont want to lay its prizes, i dont want inventory limit, really dont, i wrote down about that on .Net forum ages ago.

    But if we didnt win this battle ?! What should we do ?! I have my concerns but this time i feel that it’s inevitable, and if this dont come on 1.31 it will rise before the 2Q ends this year. =/

    I dont wanna both leave the game nor completely bag limit.

    At the step 7 of the new tutorial there may be a word wrong written, ’cause google translation doesn’t know it:

    OMG you absolutely rock! Thanks. Otherwise I’d have to work a few days on low droprate product jobs just to make one ingredient, not to mention inability to work on all jobs needed on level 20 so I can’t get those products for nuggets… ๐Ÿ™

    the placing of Crefting icon is much improved, bou after giving it some thought I find that it would fit better in Skills panel perhaps?

    another idea is to put it in the Quests panel, there’s plenty of space – because I perceive the Crafting of specific recipes a sort of quest

    All professions should be available now. Currently not all professions reward you with usable items. This will change! EVERY profession will grant you 6 usable products and two collection products. Some professions don’t grant anything yet simply because the system is not yet implemented.

    I will list some of the bonuses the professions will provide:

    Fieldcook: Meals that will grant the player a bonus on stats over time (Buff)

    Quack: Substances that will grant you an instant effect (potions)

    Smith: Tools that improve your items for a short amount of time (Item -Enhancement)

    Saddlemaster: Tools and items that increase your travel speed or makes travel more comfortable (Booster)

    All craftable components that are auctionable are needed in other professions. Thus it is highly recommended to sell them on the auctionhouse. All other components are needed later on in your own professions and in no other profession, therefore they are not auctionable.

    All job products will be auctionable with the next update on the Beta.

    I think you should lower the Prf.-Points for new Recipes (e.g. 20) it is a little bit boring until you got 50.
