Fresh from the testdesk

Just a draft ….. but we think you’ll gonna like this

Basically, town owners will be able to create their very own town layout. Additionally, there’ll be changes about how buildings work … like effecting each other depending on their location…

Nice one guys ;), thumbs up

  2. January 21st, 2011 at 13:22 | #2

yes, pretty cool, bit more sand and rocks, different town map, depending the place in map, for example if the town is between 3 hills, could be more humpy, and if are rivers and lakes, display them

    what other bonuses will be?

like the ideea developing different towns, and different bonuses? scientific town- more luck, dueling town-more xp and/or motivation, merchant town-less fees and better bank bonuses, fortified town-better deffence (extra tactics, dodge bonus), capital town-more members, tourist town-better hotel and regeneration,) fees from spending night in hotel, sleepyhead items), religious town (more bonus to praying? members life will stand at 1 once a day instead of KO), less fees for shops, more money and information for bounty hunters, etc.

i think that now every kid wants to own a town, so more members should give more bonuses, we dont need many small towns, we need some big ones with 50 players

so or specify less places on map, where towns can be builded up, the foundation cost should depend on how many towns are in world currently (for example the first is free, the second town is +10 dollars and the 3000. will be around 30000 dollar so better join, then create new) and towns should deteriorate with time, so must repair them, or they lose points and buildings upgrade require more points
also ghost towns should deteriorate faster and disappear from map
repairing could be time/day so members should spend only their energy on it, no points required, more members, less time/member so big towns, big bonuses, small towns, less bonus

  3. January 21st, 2011 at 13:32 | #3

@laccy: Town member count should have more impact. One idea is, that every building “consumes” at least one member as “maintenance”. So if you have 8 people in town, you could have like town hall and church for free, but saloon, gunsmith, tailor, barber, sheriff etc. would consume certain amounts of members, eg. a level 3 sheriff could need 5 town members. In the sum, you couldn’t exceed your town member count. That would force players to group. Alternatively, if you really want to solo, we could allow players to “buy” members for nuggets – this looks like a nice premium feature to us: you can get your town populated by getting friends playing – or you pay us a small amount of money once to have your fun alone. Both should be good for us.
About tech trees: Yeah, that’s a thought as well: Like if you start, you can build only one or two buildings and you can gain new levels and buildings by extending your town slowly. Eventually, certain town events (town quests or player achievements) could allow you building memorials, e.g. if your town members have fought 1000 battles, you can build a soldier memorial that could give members a +5% XP bonus on battles. Same goes for duels, working, questing and building. The possibilities are pretty much endless. And there’s even more…

  4. JoxerTM
    January 21st, 2011 at 14:03 | #4

zet, is the +5% XP for fort fighters really needed? i mean… would anyone care for that after 1000 battles? on the other hand, +5% on chest drop chance would definetly make players more interested in fort fights, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

town quests… that means we’ll get more quests in next update? finally! each update brings many new things, but not much new quests. we’re hungry for quests, man. ๐Ÿ™‚

it feels you want players not to go townless any more, and it’s great, but there is a catch. please redesign adventurer class completely. playing that class became a torture, each update makes another adventurer bonus worthless.

there is one thing i want to ask… is it possible to make more than 50 town spaces? i have a problem on one world where i have 2 full towns and 1 with 15-20 members. organizing things is really painful, ok, we do use shared forums, all three towns are a member of the same alliance, but… an example, i can’t see who has a red dot, who contributed to the town and deserved at least a councilor hat and such things. ๐Ÿ™

    January 21st, 2011 at 15:53 | #5

    Nice thing coming ๐Ÿ™‚
This game is going to be a very tactical game… where should I build my bank… “like effecting each other depending on their locationโ€ฆ” – so if I build my bank next to the town hall, it will give a little bonus, like a little money go always to the town hall?

Laccy: I think you right, when you say, we don’t need that much town…, but the first days there are 100 town start (or more…) and the 100th will 1000 dollar? Less building place will better, and the most of the places will not at the forts…, maybe 1 in each?

An other question: When will the town’s founder make the places for building? can it changed before/after the building start? Maybe can build up more building like 2 gunsmoke, or it will be 1 (I think it stay 1, but it make a little bit more tactical, you have to think: we need a second hotel or a tailor, or a residences… (but if there are more then one residences… 100 player in the town? – or there are levels for residence, and all is take a place… the 50 player is still going, there are 10 place for residences, and for other buildings there are more… and after that you have maybe 2-5 place, where you can build…))

Sorry for that lots of question… and maybe suggestion…

  6. ketjatekos
    January 21st, 2011 at 16:00 | #6

    Laccy: “The first is free…”
I think its not good… the first town will be 8 hour and maybe 1-2 plus minutes from the start of the server… the second need 10, it will 2 min darn socks…

  7. January 21st, 2011 at 16:14 | #7

@joxtertm: No, it’s not needed, it’s just an example – but if you calculate it through: 50 players need for 1000 fights only 20 participations (It would be the sum of all member participations). So a town could get this pretty soon and a 5%+ bonus would be still cool then, especially when the town is battle centered.

Town quests are only *planned*, not that it’s going to be 1.31 or so …

About extra spaces: Currently there’s an admin tool option to increase a town’s member max count articially – but that’s for game mastered worlds. But maybe you could compromise with local authorities ๐Ÿ˜‰ – we do not put up rules how the extra space option is allowed to be used, so you could try haggling with your community manager. But in general, there should be options (like better interface for handling alliances, e.g. seeing inactivity of members etc.)

@ketjatekos: Relocating buildings would be a must have. But it would cost efforts. And yes, the idea is, that you can follow a strategy in a town (like being offensive duellers, defensive duellers, offensive fort combatants, etc. etc.). This is stolen a bit from a player’s idea, though it was a bit different ๐Ÿ˜‰ (we see more possibilities about how ideas could be worked out ;)).

    January 21st, 2011 at 16:49 | #9

Very nice idea but i have to questions:
implementing this in old worlds would reset all towns and make necessary to rebuild them from the beginning? IMHO it would be nice because people who wants to move their city have this possibility and also big cities that exist now would be constructed fully in few days so it wouldn’t be much effort.

Second, if the idea of bonus buildings for towns achievements become true there will be players with high number of fort battles or duels wonr or anything else that would travel in other cities to give their aid to reach the achievement. So i was thinking that just founders stats could be used to achieve the bonuses and to become founder of a city you must stay there at least for a month or something like this and to become councillor you must stay there for one week. This woul also aid to make people stay in towns without changing it…

  10. January 21st, 2011 at 17:10 | #10

@darfen: The statistics would need to be collected for the town, counting only town member statistics while they are members.
About existing towns, I see two possibilities: Either allow players to keep their old town layout if they want and allow to migrate if they wish. This would make it a bit tougher in the future since we’ll have multiple “town-code”. That would therefore raise maintainance on our side.
Or we install for old towns a default layout for the new versioni and town members can move buildings around if they wish to (for some time).

    no town quests yet… :whine:

no matter, anything that can make the game more insteresting at least a bit, suits me. thanks and keep up the good work!

and zet… you say I should haggle with my CM, hehe
my CM believes I’m an evil character with destructive behavior and that finally resulted with, well, guess yourself. so… talking to CM about game enhancements would be pretty much over the edge in my case. ๐Ÿ˜‰
that’s why I’m talking here directly to you. this is not my first comment here on thig blog, and I’ve learned you won’t misinterpret anything I say. and I’m not the only one saying that. your public blog and your posts on .de and beta forums makes the positive feedback from the community – we feel that you care!

What about destroying forts in battles. what about special sectors in fortbattles e. g. See that reqire swimming as fortbattleskill. And what about creating a new class e. g. artillerist helping the Fortbattlecrew destroying Walls or Towers by using a piece of artillery (cannon)

but zet, i have one question, isn’t it a idea, that you place a roadmap discussion on the dev-blog, where we can place, the idea’s that are approved by you’re country, (in english of course) so that you have a lot of ideas from the hole world :).

  25. January 24th, 2011 at 14:39 | #25

@Marijo84: Poker is worked at right now…

@C.Max: Nice screenshot, sort of what we wanna have ๐Ÿ˜€

@JoxerTM: Actually… I know your forum posts a bit ;). I have a nice position here since I don’t have to deal with players directly, so I don’t have to deal with destructive natures such as your play ;). Oh well, anyway, if we redo the town building setup, we could come up with “extra spaces” so that towns can get larger than they are now…

@aliebaba: Roadmap for 2011 is still up to be done -.-

@mennik: No, existing towns would start with a default layout or some extra buildpoints… not sure yet. But we won’t forget that, believe me…

Please, our Indian towns need tipis ๐Ÿ˜›

  28. January 24th, 2011 at 15:55 | #28

@crazy max: I would not even only want to have tipis but also mexican towns – so it would allow to have western-mexican-indian towns. Ton’s of ideas about that available as well (like different bonuses etc.).

    January 24th, 2011 at 16:37 | #29

So you will decide how the town will look when you found it?
Or as you build the buildings?
I personally would prefer the latter.

Wow, Indian and mexican towns would be absolutely awesome! All the other idea’s look cool too, I love how this game progresses!

maybe you could make the lay-out of the northern areas look more cold, with lots of snow and frozen lakes (and maybe different jobs too, like smashing holes in the ice so you can fish instead of fishing). The southern areas on the contrary should look more “hot” with more deserts, less lakes, and maybe different trees? And then you can have jobs like selling sombrero’s for siesta’s, renting umbrella’s on the beach,…

But that’s probably a lot of work, because you have to change the whole lay-out of the map.

    January 25th, 2011 at 16:54 | #33

It will be better if u add something like declaring war between towns,
and than the city area becomes likes shadows for the attacker,
than they have to choose just a part of the town and then they attack.

in this case they just can destroy a part of the town and than the importance of where we should build what shows up.

other wise, checking each town with different style is not a good idea,
cause for example u want to search other towns around u and it will just get confusing

like the new idea, needs to be thought about.
dont like having to buy members,, its restricting.
dont like the poker idea,”many” of these guys you “dont” want to mess with..keep it clean family based fun…like some silly game like peggle or boggle or snap.

been thinking about some animations, simple easy but nice cursors or in the corner of the screen.
some one horse riding with a trail of dust behind them,, just like your buffalo idea, a few weeks back.

this new idea is great, but i dont like the restrictions..some people just wanna play solo.

thats racist saying racist towns mexicans are the same as other people

  37. Threeson
    January 28th, 2011 at 18:47 | #37

Having Mexican towns just means having towns built Mexican style, adobes and such. It’s not any more racist saying that there’s a Mexican country, and it’s different from the U.S. It’s just recognizing that fact that there were indeed Mexicans in the West and not just whites from the East who built their towns American style.

And if having Mexican towns is racist, then so is having Indian camps. But to deliberately exclude both is the only thing that might be racist.

    Nice work Zet. Thanks.

It would be amazing if a fort layout could also be changed by its owners, even if costing many hours of building.

Funny, when you day mexicans are the same as other people, but dont say a thing about indians it sounds like you think indians arent.

Mexicans are humans and diferent groups of humans often have different cultures and guess what, different architecture and building styles.

I’m sure the development/art team will make a fine job.

    February 2nd, 2011 at 12:50 | #42

@Zet : Perhaps you could look at a test run of increased town sizes on the 2 really large worlds 11 and 12, since they are the ones that have the numbers to really need more space. But with new town layout yes maybe allow for people building more than one residence and making it more time-consuming etc to build each extra one.
Also I think many people agree that new Quests, particularly for above Level-75, are really needed, whether that’s town quests or normal quests, pleeease give us more quests ๐Ÿ™‚ Maybe you could start by making the clothing items to fill up all the existing ‘sets’ with pants/belts and initially make them available only through quests for a while, would be fun AND useful ๐Ÿ™‚

@Ketjatekos : Easy way to keep track of your 3 towns for active members etc is to get them as members of a Fort, then you can look at the info for the towns who are members of that fort and it gives you the red/yellow/green dots next to everyone’s name. ๐Ÿ™‚

  43. February 3rd, 2011 at 22:12 | #43

    hello,

firstly, thanks zet for answer and informations
    sounds great ๐Ÿ˜€
every town member could have a daily quest as job, and could get xp for it, this would give some advantage vs townless players, and town members could have a small “salary” for example sheriff of town should duel with some players, builders should build town, others get some wood, water, food, etc.
and as you say, should maintain buildings, or they wont be accesible

ketjatekos: it was just an ideea, the main point is, that no need for many towns, especially with leaders without experience and motivation, and isnt logic that everybody wants new towns, and big towns cant attract players, is a big work to maintain town in the top, this work should be recompensed
better conception results better gameplay, its all about balance

turtle idea is also cool, we had something like that:
seasonal weather and daily conditional change could influence jobs difficulty: like its harder to hunt puma in rain or easyer fishing when lake is not frozen, this would need every job to put in a category, some weather conditions by temprerature, precipitation, season, relief, etc. and this would affect every job giving different xp, money, luck for them, so players should adapt to it

also with change of town map, should change world map a bit, for example better contrast in high hills and sloppy parts, canyons, rocks, bigger and more wariable town look
from advertisement i conclude that developers will spend more on game, so better look is necesarry for getting more fans

koyal: yes, you are right, more hours of work should make forts more harder to be attacked and harder to occupied, for example should be possible to make moat around it or plant trees, this would need better strategy and adaptation to conditions more interesting fights
